Job Purpose:
To provide subject matter expertise across multiple qualifications within the security and law enforcement discipline, ensuring the development of academically sound, industry-relevant, and regulatory-compliant programmes. The role will contribute to the development of curriculum content and ensure that the qualification meets all relevant regulatory and professional standards.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Lead and contribute to the design and development of the full qualification suite, ensuring alignment and progression across:
*Higher Certificate (NQF 5)
*Bachelor’s Degree (NQF 7)
*Postgraduate Diploma (NQF 8)
- Develop and review module content, including learning outcomes, assessment strategies, and study materials.
- Ensure alignment with relevant regulatory and professional requirements, including PSIRA and applicable legislative frameworks.
- Ensure vertical articulation and curriculum coherence across all qualifications.
- Contribute to programme accreditation processes, including the preparation and review of required documentation.
- Embed current legislation, industry practices, and emerging trends in security, law enforcement, and risk management.
- Collaborate with academic development, quality assurance, and regulatory teams.
- Review and provide expert input on qualification documentation and academic materials.
Minimum Requirements:
- A Master’s degree (NQF 9) or higher in:
>Security Management,
>Policing / Law Enforcement,
>Criminology / Criminal Justice, or
>closely related field
- Extensive industry experience in security services, law enforcement, or security/risk management.
- 3 to 5 years’ experience in higher education teaching, curriculum development, or programme design.
- Demonstrated experience working across multiple NQF levels (certificate to postgraduate) will be advantageous.
- Experience in qualification development and accreditation processes is highly desirable.
- Professional registration with relevant bodies (e.g., PSIRA) will be advantageous.
- Qualification at least one NQF level higher than the highest qualification being developed will be advantageous.
- Copy of academic transcript.
Key Competencies:
- Strong understanding of the South African higher education regulatory framework.
- In-depth knowledge of legislation and practices in:
>Security services
>Law enforcement
>Risk and security management
- Ability to design articulated, progressive curricula across NQF levels.
- Strong academic writing and curriculum development skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with academic and quality assurance teams.
- High attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to function effectively in a dynamic, project-based environment.
Working Hours:
This is a project-based engagement. Working hours will be determined based on project requirements and agreed deliverables.
Salary:
Market related.
