Job Purpose:

The Programme Coordinator is responsible for monitoring and supporting academic programmes by ensuring lecturer performance, quality teaching and learning and timely results submission. Playing a key role in supporting both students and lecturers, overseeing programme related administration and managing assessments, including any issues that arise. Additionally, contribute to the academic experience by lecturing one or more modules based on campus needs, making direct impact on students success. 

Duties and resposibilities:

  • Deliver lectures and direct student engagement (10 hours per week) based on module-specific requirements in line with module pacers.
  • Update Learning Management System and provide feedback to students.
  • Quality assures lecturer engagement, attendance, and participation to enhance the quality of Teaching-Learning.
  • Design, develop and implement module-specific interventions, resources, and capacity.
  • Analyse results to assess performance of modules and to identify at risk modules.
  • Lecturer orientation in support of student experience in programme and discipline-related themes.
  • Convene and manage subject meetings aligned with module pacers and obtain feedback for subject meetings from all Lecturers.
  • Develop and design strategies to make modules perform better in conjunction with the Programme Manager.
  • Plan interventions to support students through reviewing performance based on an analysis of historic data.
  • Conduct quality assurance class visits and monitor delivery according to pacers to drive success rates through consistency of teaching concepts taught.
  • Monitor student retention, roll over and dropout rates
  • Participate in campus academic activities and coordinate the implementation of master classes and mock tests across programmes with all lecturers. 
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of Lecturers to track pass rates per module.
  • Convene subject meetings twice a semester.
  • Ensure that the campus is adequately resourced by participating in interview panels.
  • Assist with student registration and orientation as required.
  • Encourage the participation of the academic staff in Celebrate Teaching-Learning.
  • Mediate and escalate relationships and disputes between Lecturers and students.
Requirements:
  • Minimum - An NQF level 8 in social science or psychology or graphic design or visual communication (Honours)
  • Ideal – master’s degree in social science or psychology or graphic design, or visual communication
  • 1 to 2 years of classroom-based teaching and Community of Best Practice exposure
  • 3 years lecturing experience
  • Programme coordination on a modular level
  • 2 to 3 years full time exposure to ensure an appreciation of academic cycles and structures
  • 1 to 3 years of industry-specific experience in area of specialisation
  • Solid understanding of the South African Further Education and Higher Education environment and regulatory framework

Key Competencies:
  • Knowledge and understanding of the South African higher education systems and regulatory framework. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Teaching and Learning theory and interventions.

  • The ability to work with and learn more about digitalized academic platforms. 
  • The ability to cope with a frequently changing environment and to adapt to evolving situations. 
  • Ability to adhere to rules and strictly follow work regulations. 
  • Deadline orientated and can work well under pressure. 
  • Ability to manage time effectively. 

Working Hours:  

Classes are scheduled between 08h00am until 17h00pm, Monday to Friday.
